PC Tools AntiVirus provides a Scan Exclusions list, which allows you to instruct the application to exclude specific files, file types or the contents of entire folders from being detected by File Scans and OnGuard real-time monitoring.
Any files, folders and file types listed on the Scan Exclusions screen are not detected in File Scans or by OnGuard.
On the Scan Exclusions screen:
To add a folder or file to the list, click the Add Folder/File button and browse and select the folder or file that you wish to exclude from the Browse For Folder dialog. Click the OK button on this screen to add the folder or file to the Scan Exclusions list.
To add specific file types to the list, click the Add File Type button and the File Types Excluded dialog displays. File types are based on the file extensions of file names. On this dialog, do either of the following:
Choose from the list of predefined file types by selecting the check boxes next to the appropriate file types in this list and then click the Ok button. The selected file types are added to the Scan Exclusions list.
If a file type is not available in the predefined file type list, it can be added to this list through the Custom File Types section of this dialog. One or more file extensions can be typed into the list and are added to the predefined file type list when the Add button is clicked. File extensions should be typed without the initial full-stop symbol and each file type must be separated by a comma. After items have been added to the predefined file type list, their check boxes must be selected for them to be added to the Scan Exclusions list.
Note: File types listed on the Scan Exclusions list have their check boxes automatically selected on the File Types Excluded dialog. Clearing the check boxes next to file types on this dialog removes them from the Scan Exclusions list.
To remove one or more items from the list, select the check boxes next to each item to be removed and then click the Remove button.
To clear the entire Scan Exclusions list, click the Clear List button.
To reset the Scan Exclusions list to the default installation settings, click the Reset Defaults list button.
To save any updates to the Scan Exclusions list, click the Ok button.
Note: By default, the file types for the indexed database files of e-mail applications are listed in the Scan Exclusions list. These types of files contain the actual e-mail messages.
