Scanning

PC Tools AntiVirus' scan functions are capable of conducting a system-wide scan of your computer for the presence of infected or suspicious items and files. Infected files are those that are known to contain virus or related malware code. On the other hand, suspicious files are those which contain code that is either modified or reminiscent to that of a virus or item of related malware.

The scan function is also capable of detecting and shutting down the running processes of infected files during a scan in order to protect your computer against further infection.

You may perform a full scan or a custom scan.

A full scan will run a comprehensive scan of your whole system. A custom scan allows you to specify the parts of your system you wish to include in the scan. We recommend that you perform a full scan regularly to keep your system safe from infection. You may also schedule a full scan to run on a periodic basis.

Once the scan is complete, if an infection or suspicious item was detected, the Scan Results List is displayed. Details of the threat associated with each item can be viewed here, as well as the actions that PC Tools AntiVirus performed on the item. These actions are configurable through the scan settings.  Depending on your settings, you are either prompted when a suspicious item or infection is detected, or the infection is quarantined into a contained area, or automatically removed.

If no infected or suspicious items are detected, the Scan Results Summary screen is displayed.

See Scan Results for more information about results.
