Restoring quarantined items
Previous Topic  Next Topic

Quarantining is a mechanism by which PC Tools Antivirus restricts suspicious or infected files and related malware threats to a restricted area so they no longer affect your system.

To have quarantine action enabled, you will need to configure it as an option for file scanning and IntelliGuard protection through their respective settings screens.

When infected or suspicious files are detected during a File Scan or by IntelliGuard real-time detection, they are automatically moved into the Quarantined Items List. We recommend that you eventually delete quarantined files through this list. However, the Quarantined Items List provides a means of restoring items back onto your system. This is useful if you so wish to retrieve an infected file with potentially valuable and retrievable content, or a file that was quarantined erroneously.

To view and restore items in the Quarantined Items List:

Go to Main Status Screen and click the Restore Infections from Quarantine link located at the bottom of the screen. This will open up the Quarantined Items List. You can sort and reverse sort each column of this list by clicking the field name at the top of each column:

File - the path and name of the infected or suspicious file that PC Tools AntiVirus quarantined from your file system.

Infection - the name of the infection which was detected within the file.

Date Quarantined - the date and time of when the infected or suspicious item was quarantined from your system.

You can perform  these actions on quarantined items:

Delete -  select the check boxes next to the appropriate files and click the Remove button.

Restore - To restore one or more quarantined files, select the check boxes next to the appropriate files and click the Restore button.

To return to the Main Status screen, click the 'Back' button.

Note: due to the complex and evolving nature of some viruses and other malware, it may not be possible to restore all files that have been quarantined.
