The General Settings category allows you to customize a range of generic and global settings which affect the overall behavior of PC Tools AntiVirus.

To access this screen, click on Settings in the left navigation menu and select General Settings.

Quarantine items before removal

This setting ensures that PC Tools AntiVirus quarantines all infected or suspicious items detected in a File Scan or by IntelliGuard before they are removed. Having this option selected allows you to restore quarantined items at a later time.

Note: This setting takes precedence over the removal actions that can be set on the Scan Settings and IntelliGuard Settings screens. Therefore, to remove detected items without quarantining them, clear this check box and set the relevant actions on the Scan and IntelliGuard Settings screens to 'Remove'.

Delete quarantined items after restoring

Selecting this check box results in the automatic removal of quarantined items from the Quarantined Items List after they have been restored.

IntelliGuard tools can display pop-up alert window

Selecting this check box causes PC Tools AntiVirus to display pop-up alerts of real-time IntelliGuard activities above the SysTray. If this option is cleared, all pop-up alerts are suppressed and infection detections are recorded in the Infected items list.

Note: You can also suppress pop-up alerts by clicking on the Hide Alerts link that appears on any pop-up alert.

Show splash screen

Selecting this check box displays the splash screen whenever PC Tools AntiVirus starts up.

Scan button action

Sets the default scan function on the System Scan screen, which is accessed by clicking the Scan button on the left of the Main Status screen.

Select language

Sets the default language for the product interface.
